Today's MailSpaces update
Today we did a major update to MailSpaces.
Here's the main changes if you're a user of the system:
- There are now separate preferences for which editor to use when editing discussion messages and knowledge entries. Everyone has been updated to use plain text for discussion messages and the HTML editor for knowledge entries. If you wish to change please go to your Preferences and choose the User Basics tab.
- There's a new Tags section in each space. Here you can select a tag and see all the feed items, discussion messages and knowledge entries with that tag, all together on the same list rather than split up by what type they are.
- Viewing the index of discussion message threads is now the same as most web forums. Threads are listed in the order they last had a message added to them instead of when they were started. There's also a link alongside to view only the new messages in a thread that have been added in the current day. If you want the old ordering, select a time span from the drop-down menu.
- There have been a number of user interface improvements. There are new links on most pages to tell you about the actions you can do there. There's also now a Log Off button on each page rather than tucked away in the Preferences.
- We've made big improvements to the automatic messages that you get from the system. They should now be much clearer than before and come with a subject that tells you what they are about.
And here's the main changes if you're an administrator of a space:
- If you set your space to 'private' access to view and the access to join to 'anyone' or 'approved' then it is now possible for users to come and join your space by visiting the URL http://www.mailspaces.com/spaces/SPACENAME/+join. If they haven't yet registered then they will be given the option to register and join at the same time.
- Profile headings no longer give you the option to import headings from the user profile into member profiles. Instead when a member profile is viewed it will show information from both.
As always, your feedback is extremely welcome. Many of the things here are ones that you've told us about and it's with your help that we make MailSpaces better.
